If reasonably cared for - i.e., avoiding oil or chemical contamination, membranes should last a number of years. Theoretically, they can last 7 years constant use in perfect conditions. However, the oceans of the world are far from the perfect conditions of a laboratory test bench, but they may be expected to last between two and 4 years on the average boat.
